PLEASE BRING A 3.5 IBM-FORMAT FLOPPY WITH A COPY OF YOUR PRESENTATION ON IT. THE FLOPPY WILL HAVE YOUR PRESENTATION IN EITHER MSWORD OR WORD PERFECT. IF YOU WILL DO A POWER POINT PRESENTATION, PLEASE PLACE A COPY ON YOUR DISK AS WELL.

THANK YOU!

Each student will lead one class discussion (about 15 minutes) centered around their course paper topic.

You should:

prepare a two to three page synopsis handout for class distribution

the handout and the presentation should summarize the major points on the conceptual and empirical literature on your topic. The synopsis outlines your topic, discusses major concepts and findings, and highlights directions for future research.

You will do a brief presentation and lead a brief discussion on the topic

You may use varied media in your presentation/discussion. Our class room has an overhead projector, computer for PowerPoint, a VCR and other audio-visual aids. Please note that I must scan all disks for viruses!

HINTS AND EXAMPLES

Make 12 handouts, a copy for you, the entire class, and for me.

Try leaving 5 minutes for questions and discussion (I know, that's only 10 minutes for a presentation, but remember, people can scan the handout!)

Include examples in your presentation and handout. Concrete examples are a very helpful way to illustrate concepts.

A bibliography at the end of your handout is a good touch so interested persons can follow up on the topic. This really will be appreciated.

Your presentations form part of the material that you can use for the Course Exam.

Check out Power Point presentations from earlier classes.

You will need either Power Point or the Power Point viewer (available on virtually all university computers) to view these presentations.

EXAM TIME GUIDELINES
NOTE DATE, TIME, AND LOCATION

We will have a comprehensive exam  covering readings and seminar materials (including lectures, presentations, and  Web site materials).

Approximately six read-ahead exam essay questions will be distributed November 25 and will be posted on the Internet. The purpose of the essay questions is to synthesize course material over the semester.

I will select four questions from this set and you will write on two of them.

The exam is in-class, open book, open note.

PLEASE NOTE THE DATE, DAY, AND TIME:

Our Course Exam is scheduled for Monday, December 9 at 5:30 PM.

PLEASE NOTE THE PROBABLE LOCATION:

Usually, our Course Exam is held in 124 Stone Building.
That way, students write on computer and print their exam. We have done this for about two years and it has worked out very well. (Of course, if you prefer, you may hand write your exam instead.) We will use one of the small computer rooms inside the LRC. Go in the SOUTH wing (the smaller wing) of the Stone Building, first floor. Go through the swinging doors into the LRC to room 124C.
